MAN CHARGED FOLLOWING HOTEL BREAK-IN IN ST MARY
Forty-two-year-old Dimitri French, otherwise called ‘Frenchman’, a photographer of Mammee Bay, St Ann, has been charged with House Breaking with Intent and Malicious Destruction of Property following an incident at a hotel in St Mary on Wednesday, October 28.
Reports from the Prospect Police are that about 1:00 a.m., a couple vacationing at the hotel were awakened by strange noises coming from their bathroom. The hotel security was alerted and, upon conducting checks, discovered that someone had gained entry to the couple’s room through a bathroom window. A glass partition separating the shower stall was also found shattered on the floor. Alternative accommodation was subsequently arranged for the couple.
At about 2:15 a.m., a security guard used a master key to enter another room, which was believed to be unoccupied. Upon entering, he reportedly heard running water coming from the bathroom. Further checks revealed French, who allegedly fled through a patio door and jumped from a balcony.
Other security personnel were alerted and pursued him, resulting in his apprehension. The police were summoned, and French was taken into custody following the processing of the scene.
On Sunday, November 1, French was subsequently charged after CCTV footage was reviewed and he reportedly admitted to entering the couple’s room. He claimed that his intention was to collect money owed to him by the male guest.
His court date is being finalised.
