
MAN CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF PROHIBITED WEAPON ETAL IN PORTLAND
Fifty-three-year-old Manley McKenzie, otherwise called ‘Degeh,’ a carpenter of McWinney Street, Kingston, and Nonsuch District, Portland, has been charged with several gun-related offences following an incident in Nonsuch District, Portland, on Sunday, December 25, 2022.
The charges laid against Mckenzie are: Illegal Possession of Firearm, Illegal Possession of Ammunition, Assault at Common Law and Discharging of a Firearm within Forty Meters of a Main Thoroughfare.
Reports from the Castle Police are that at about 8:00 p.m., a man was among patrons at a bar when he was approached by McKenzie, who brandished a firearm and pointed it in his face and threatened him. It was further reported that McKenzie fired several shots in the air before fleeing the scene. The group managed to make their escape unhurt. The man later reported the incident to the police, and an investigation was launched.
Following intensive investigation, McKenzie was nabbed in Kingston and later transported to Portland. He was formally charged on Saturday, January 17, after a question-and-answer session.
His court date is being finalised.
