
POLICE OFFICER CHARGED FOLLOWING JOINT ANTI-TRAFFICKING OPERATION
Detectives assigned to the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC) have formally charged a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force following an intelligence-driven operation in Area 1 that resulted in the seizure of 85 rounds of ammunition on Friday, January 30.
Charged is 31-year-old Tarnel Wright, a police constable who was assigned to the Westmoreland Police Division.
Wright and another man, who is a civilian, were arrested during a collaborative operation by members of C-TOC and investigators from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) in sections of Westmoreland and Hanover. During the operation, a motor vehicle, mobile phones and a sum of cash were seized.
Wright has been formally charged with:
- Possession of Prohibited Weapon
- Stockpiling
- Dealing in Prohibited Weapon
- Conspiracy to Trafficking Prohibited Weapon
Reaffirming the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s dedication to transparency, head of the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch, Senior Superintendent of Police Christopher Brown emphasised that no individual is above the law. “The Jamaica Constabulary Force has made a promise to provide impartial and professional service to the people of Jamaica, and we intend to keep that promise,” said SSP Brown.
The other man is still in police custody; however, his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
