Thirty-three-year-old Micheal Smart of Crescent District in St. Catherine was slapped with several charges following a robbery incident on Brunswick Avenue, Spanish Town in St. Catherine which occurred on Friday, January 12.
Smart is scheduled to appear before the St. Catherine Parish Court on Friday, February 2 to answer to charges of Assault with Intent to Rob, Wounding with Intent, Possession of Prohibited Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of Ammunition and Using a Prohibited Weapon to Commit a Felony.
Reports from the Spanish Town Police indicate that about 11:00 a.m., Smart and two other men approached two delivery men who were parked along the roadway. Smart brandished a firearm and a struggle ensued between him and one of the men. During the struggle one of the delivery men received a gunshot wound to his right wrist and Smart received a gunshot wound to his upper body. The other men who accompanied Smart fled the area.
Both delivery men retrieved the firearm and made a formal report at the police station. Smart was subsequently arrested and charged.
