TWO FIREARMS SEIZED, EIGHT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN ST. ANN OPERATIONS

Two firearms, including a submachine gun, and nine rounds of ammunition have been seized, and eight persons taken into custody following two coordinated police operations in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, between Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24.

The seizures resulted from intelligence-led operations conducted jointly by the National Strategic Anti-Gang Division (NSAD) and the St. Ann Operational Support Team (OST).

The first operation was conducted about 1:40 p.m. on Friday, October 23, when police, acting on information, carried out a targeted raid at premises along Main Street in Pineapple, Ocho Rios.

During a search of the property, the team discovered an Ektar EP9 submachine gun and a magazine containing nine 9mm cartridges concealed at the rear of the premises. Three persons were taken into custody in connection with the seizure.

Investigations arising from that discovery led police to conduct a follow-up operation at a five-bedroom dwelling along Main Street, Ocho Rios, between 2:19 a.m. and 4:20 a.m. on Saturday, October 24.

During the search, officers recovered an SCCY pistol with an affixed magazine. Five occupants of the premises were taken into custody.

The identities of the eight persons are being withheld pending further investigations.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) continues to intensify intelligence-led operations targeting the possession, circulation and use of illegal firearms, particularly those associated with organised criminal activities.

The JCF is urging members of the public to support these efforts by providing information about illegal firearms, individuals involved in their trafficking or possession, and locations where weapons may be concealed.

Persons with information are encouraged to contact Crime Stop anonymously at 311, the police emergency number 119, or the nearest police station.

The JCF reminds the public that timely and accurate information can assist investigators in recovering illegal weapons, preventing violent crimes and bringing offenders to justice.
