WEEKEND OPERATIONS BY JCF’S AGRICULTURAL PROTECTION BRANCH LEADS TO THREE BEING CHARGED FOR VARIOUS OFFENCES
Three men are to face the court on various charges following their arrest on Saturday, November 1, during operations undertaken by the Agricultural Protection Branch (APB) in downtown Kingston.
Charged are:
Ø Fifty-one-year-old Rohan Gayle, a chef of Collies Drive, Kingston 11
Ø Twenty-five-year-old Wayne Roper of Mount Pleasant, Portland.
Ø Forty-year-old Leon Morgan, otherwise known as ‘Bigga’, a vendor of Chestnut Lane, Kingston 14
According to reports from APB’s Metro Team, Gayle was arrested at about 11:20 a.m. on Pechon Street. Reports are that the team conducted an operation at a jerk centre, where Gayle was asked for his food handler’s permit and reportedly confessed that he did not have one. He was subsequently charged with No Valid Food Handler’s Permit. He is scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court on Monday, November 25.
Meanwhile, Wayne Roper is to answer to multiple charges, namely, No Valid Food Handler’s Permit, Exposing Goods for Sale and Being Armed with an Offensive Weapon.
Reports are that at about 10:00 a.m., the APB Metro Team was along Beckford Street when they saw Roper selling produce; he was reportedly interviewed, and it was revealed that he was not in possession of a food handler’s permit. He was later searched, and a ratchet knife was retrieved from his waistband. He was arrested and subsequently charged. His court date is set for Thursday, November 27.
The team’s operation ended with the arrest of Leon Morgan on Beckford Street. Morgan was observed by the lawmen selling jeans and craft items, blocking the roadway and causing congestion. He was arrested and subsequently charged with Exposing Goods for Sale. His court date is being finalised.
The APB encourages vendors to abide by the laws governing their operation, and reminds persons that a valid food handler’s permit is required for the sale of food items. A food handler’s permit may be obtained by contacting the health department in each parish.
