ST ANN MAN CHARGED IN ALLEGED CAR FRAUD
Twenty-six-year-old Jahmoi Hamil of Discovery Bay, St. Ann, has been charged in connection with an alleged vehicle scheme in February 2025.
Reports from the St Ann’s Bay Police are that a man responded to a social-media advertisement for a 2012 Toyota Wish motor car priced at JMD$500,000. On Monday, February 3, the man was allegedly instructed to transfer JMD$85,000 to a bank account in Hamil’s name. Later that same day, he was contacted again and instructed to transfer an additional JMD$300,000 before the vehicle could be delivered. He was reportedly contacted a third time and was instructed to pay the remaining balance. However, the man became suspicious and did not make the final payment. The vehicle was never delivered and attempts to recover the JMD$385,000 already transferred to the account were reportedly unsuccessful.
The matter was reported to police, who investigated and determined that Hamil was the owner of the account receiving the money. He was arrested on Thursday, September 24, and charged with: Obtaining money by false pretence, Conspiracy to defraud, Unlawfully making available a device or data for the commission of an offence, Receiving stolen property, and Engaging in a transaction involving criminal property.
His court date is still being finalised.
